This and That—August 2021

Last month I decided to share a monthly post called This and That: a collection of things and ideas and issues that I feel are important, interesting, playful, and/or lighthearted. (Read last month’s list here).
One reason I’m putting together this list is this:
If you’ve spent any time in the trauma-recovery world you’ll know how heavy it can be. Learning about trauma theory can be so validating and supportive. And, I’ve found it’s easy to get lost in it and forget about the things that light me up, or that make me feel curious.
Creating a practice for myself of noticing and allowing myself to feel curious (on and off the yoga mat!) has supported my nervous system in ways I wasn’t expecting.
And so, this monthly list is an extension of that practice, and I want to share it with you!
Here you go:
If you live in the city it can be easy to forget about the stars above you. Take a look at these spectacular photos.
A playlist of feel-good end-of-summer tunes.
People with disabilities or lifelong health conditions write letters to their younger selves.
This goose couple is adorable.
I just finished Jann Arden’s book If I Knew Then: Finding Wisdom in Failure and Power in Aging. Woah. An honest, funny book that tackles topics like self-worth and sobriety. I felt like an older sister was giving me some great life advice as I read.
The power of grandmothers, traditional wisdom, and community in supporting people living with depression.

Woah, deep sea creatures are amazing! The glass octopus is my favourite.
An illustration about dreams.

It’s never too late to try something new. Read about Mildred, an octogenarian tough-mudder.
What a trek! Playing a cello on top of a mountain.
A collection of ways to support Afghan citizens right now.

Until next time.
